Spanish Language Unit of the UN Web Services Section

This position is located in the Spanish Language Unit of the UN Web Services Section (WSS), in the Digital and Promotion Branch, News & Media Divisions of the Department of Public Information (DPI). The Web Services Section oversees the design, layout, production and presentation of the top layers of the UN website in all six official languages, including the homepage, the five thematic portals (Peace and Security, Development, Human Rights, Humanitarian Affairs, and International Law), as well as comprehensive background information about the UN such as global issues, and events, including all UN international observances. The Section ensures parity of website content in the six official UN languages for the following UN Organs: The General Assembly, The Security Council and ECOSOC as well as the Executive Office of the Secretary-General and the Office of the President of the General Assembly. The Language Units of WSS provide digital language adaptation services whereby digital products such as graphics, video and miscellaneous digital media are rendered usable in languages other than English (for example by video sub-titling). The Section also provides guidance and assistance to Secretariat offices in creating and enhancing their websites in all official languages. WSS promotes best practices for UN websites and other Internet-related activities, including branding, multilingualism, usability and accessibility for the disabled.


Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, information systems, or related field is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in the specified fields with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum seven (7) years progressively responsible professional experience, with at least four (4) of these years at the international level, in website development and management in Spanish and in a multilingual environment is required. Experience writing and editing in Spanish and English is required. Experience using website creation software Content Management Systems, such as Drupal and/or WordPress is required. Experience using databases is required. Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, including Dreamweaver and Photoshop, is required. Experience using of HTML 5, CSS 3 and Javascript is required. Team management experience is required.


English and French are the main official language at the United Nations, for this post fluency in English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
